Hi, I’m Bayan. I’m a writer. Sometimes a poet. Mostly just an overthinker with a strong WiFi connection.
Bayan is a poet, writer and twitter enthusiast. She started her journey as a poet in 2006 as a Roundhouse Poet and went on to join the Barbican Young Poets in 2009 until 2013. She was Female Muslim Creatives' artist of the month in 2018 and worked as the Social Media manager at Heaux Noire from 2017 until 2020. She has worked with the Barbican on their And Time Tells and The Politics of Seeing exhibitions in which she wrote poems in response to the works of Dorothea Lange and Vanessa Winship. In 2020, she was commissioned to write poems by Free Word Centre for their Finding Power season and later commissioned to produce an event exploring the sadness and strangeness of physical disconnections during a pandemic. She is an alumnus of Unislam Post-emerging Poets and is currently the Poetry Editor at Khidr Zine, a UK-based multidisciplinary arts collective which curates and platforms the work of Muslim artists. She has completed an MA in Poetry at Newcastle University and spends the rest of her time trying her best to tend to her community and writing her unaccredited opinions into long essay forms.
